Muir Woods Entrance Fee and Passes
Who pays
Muir Woods National Monument charges an entrance fee to visitors aged 16 and older. Children and teenagers under 16 enter free. The amount is set by the National Park Service and is not printed on this site, because a figure copied here could go out of date; the current amount is on nps.gov. The fee applies however a visitor arrives: by car, on the shuttle, on foot, by bicycle or by ride-share.
Passes that cover entry
America the Beautiful passes cover the entrance fee. The NPS lists the annual, senior, military, access and volunteer versions. A pass covers entry only, so a visitor driving in with one still needs a parking reservation.
The reservation is a separate charge
Every private vehicle and every shuttle rider needs a reservation from gomuirwoods.com, and that reservation is a separate charge from the entrance fee. The one does not replace the other. The reservations page explains who needs one and who does not.
Fee-free days
The NPS waives the entrance fee on a few days each year. The remaining dates in 2026 are 27 October, Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday, and 11 November, Veterans Day. Since 1 January 2026, fee-free days apply to US citizens and residents only. Parking and shuttle reservations are still required on those days, and are still charged. Which tours include the fee

On the Jeep tour the fee is paid separately for each passenger aged 16 and older; the private Jeep tour page has the detail. On the ferry-option tour, the option without park entry leaves the fee out. A tour passenger needs no parking reservation, so on the tours that include the fee nothing further is due for entry or parking. The tours hub sets the six side by side.
Families and the fee
The age line matters most for families. Children under 16 enter free on any day and by any route, so a family of two adults and two younger children pays the fee for the adults only. The private Jeep tour does not take children under 5, and its fee is paid separately for passengers 16 and older. The wine-country day sets a separate age of 21 for the tastings. The Bridge 2 and Bridge 3 loops of the Main Trail are stroller accessible.
A family with teenagers can check each traveller’s age against the 16-and-older rule before paying on the day: younger children enter free even on the Jeep tour.
